Zion National Park is one of the most popular, and beautiful, National Parks in the Country. Located in Utah, it features more than 229 square miles of land for visitors to explore. One of its most prominent features, the Zion Canyon, spans 15 miles long and is cut half a mile deep into the sandstone of the Virgin River. Elevation varies between 3,666 feet at its lowest point and 8,726 feet at its highest. Let’s learn more about Zion National Park and why you should visit.

More About Zion National Park

Zion National Park sits between the Mojave Desert, the Great Basin, and the Colorado Plateau, featuring some of the unique geographies you’ll see in one area in the US. It features more than 289 bird species, 75 mammals and 32 reptiles. There are four life zones designated within Zion: Coniferous forest, desert, riparian and woodland. The park features everything from buttes to monoliths to rivers to arches to canyons and mountains.

One of the interesting facts about this National Park is that its geology records hold more than 13 million years’ worth of data for scientists and researchers. Some of the uplift associated with the Colorado Plateaus dates back more than 13 million years ago, reaching upwards of 10,000 feet at its peak. There are nine formations throughout the Zion Canyon and Kolob Canyon areas that offer more than 150 million years of sedimentation.

This park features everything a visitor could want to take part in, including geology tours, hikes, camping, RVing and more. Whether you go for a day, for a week, or head back for more, Zion should be on everyone’s National Park bucket list. There’s something for everyone at Zion, so when booking your trip, make sure to go through all your options and get the most out of your stay. We guarantee you won’t be able to get it in all in one trip. You’ll have to come back for more.
